(a) | Herbivores-Plants | (i) | Commensalism |
(b) | Mycorrhiza-Plants | (ii) | Mutualism |
(c) | Sheep-Cattle | (iii) | Predation |
(d) | Orchid-Tree | (iv) | Competition |
Select the correct option from following:
Competition in the broadest sense refers to the interaction of two organisms striving for the same resource. Sheep and cattle both are herbivores and fight for the same resource when present together. It is an example of an interspecific competition.
In predation, only one species (predator) benefits and the interaction is detrimental to the other species (prey). Herbivores are predators and plants are prey.
Epiphytes (orchids) growing on other plants like mango (host) gets benefit in the form of shelter but the host neither drives any apparent benefit nor does it get harmed. Such an interaction is called commensalism.
