Nitrobacter is a nitrifying bacteria that use inorganic chemicals as an energy source. They are microorganisms that are important in the nitrogen cycle as converters of soil ammonia to nitrates. This involves two distinct groups of bacteria one (Nitrosomonas) which converts ammonia to nitrites and other (Nitrobacter) that convert nitrites to nitrates.
