Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming from Penicillium notatum fungus. Penicillium is called gree mould, which belongs to class-Ascomycetes. Today, penicillin is also obtained fro Penicillium crysogenum. Fleming, Chain, and Florey were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1945, for this discovery.
