Plants cells have cells that are totipotent called meristem cells. Apical meristem of root and shoot gives rise to three meristems, first protoderm meristem that gives rise to epidermis, second ground meristem that produces the future cortex and endodermis and third procambium meristem that gives rise to primary vascular tissue and vascular cambium. Cylindrical meristem or secondary meristem increases the width of the cell.
