The root cap's primary function is enhancing direct root growth by reducing friction against the soil, sensing gravity and protecting root meristem. In hydrophytes, the root system will be of a fibrous type and hence, the root pockets are present, whereas the root caps are absent, e.g., Eichhornia, Pistia, Lemna. Pandanus, Pothos and Ficus are plants that grow on soil.
