Gradual decrease in the bone mass can lead to loss of bone cells at the joints. The outer covering-cartilage- at the joint is reduced leading to inflammation and pain which is called as osteoarthritis. This can happen due to old-age or due to regular wear and tear. Sometimes, accumulation of uric acid around joints leads to inflammation. Such inflammation and pain is called a gout.
