Temperature of helium = 270 C=300 K

The root-mean-square velocity of helium μrms3RTM=3R×3004

The most probable speed μmp2RTM=2R×7200M

Put the μrms=μmp

3R×3004=2R×7200M3R×3004=2R×7200M900×M =7200×8M =7200×8900=64

So, the molar mass of gas is 64. The sulphur dioxide has the molar mass of 64 g/mol.

Hence, the gas is SO2.
