The correct answer is: The motion is SHM with amplitude a2+b2
y=asinωt+bcosωt

Let a=rcosθ   and    b=rsinθ

y=rcosθsinωt+rsinθcosωt

=rsin(ωt+θ)

   a2+b2=r2cos2θ+sin2θ=r2

or r=a2+b2
