The correct answer is: medulla oblongata to the level of the second lumbar vertebra
Vertebral column consists of 26 vertebrae divided as Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, Sacral and Coccygeal. Spinal cord (made up of nervous tissue) passes through this but it extends from medulla to second lumbar vertebrae only. Beyond it only the pia mater of spinal cord extends till the coccyx. Thus the spinal cord does not extend till the full length of vertebral column.
