The stem of maize and sugarcane have supporting roots that come out from the lower nodes of the stem. These are called stilt roots. These roots grow obliquely towards the soil and it keeps the plant erect by giving additional support. Prop roots act as a pillar and arise from the horizontal branches and grow vertically downward. It is found in Ficus benghalensis (banyan tree). Pneumatophores are found in mangroves.
