The correct answer is: 252
Let the observations be x1, x2, x3,,x50 and the mean be x¯.

From the given data,

Variance =7, the number of observations n=50.

Variance =1nxi-x¯2

7=150xi-x¯2

350=xi-x¯2  ...1

Each observation is multiplied by 6 and then 5 is subtracted.

Let the new observations be y1, y2, y3,,y50.

yi=6xi-5

xi=yi+56  ...2

The new variance =1nyi-y¯2

y¯=1nyi  ...3

y¯=1506xi-5

y¯=1506xi-050150·5

y¯=1506xi-5

y¯=6x¯-5   [ From 1]

x¯=y¯+56  ...4

xi-x¯2=350

yi+56-y¯+562=350  [ From 2 & 4]

162yi-y¯2=350

yi-y¯2=36×350

yi-y¯2=12600

New variance=150yi-y¯2=150×12600=252
