Genetic diversity is the number and types of genes as well as chromosomes present in different species and the variations in the genes and their alleles in the same species. Hence, the variation in potency and concentration of reserpine of Rauwolfia is a result of genetic diversity. The production of reserpine is genetically regulated and with variation, in alleles, different concentrations of reserpine will be produced.
