The normality is inversely proportional to the volume of the solution.

Applying the equation,

N1V1=N2V2

given,

N1=0.5, N2=0.1V1=100 cm3, V2=?

0.5×100 =0.1×V2V2=500 cm3

Therefore, the water to be added to the 100 cm3 solution =500-100=400 cm3.
