Red blood cells are the most common type of blood cell and delivering oxygen to the body tissues via the blood. There is no DNA in mature RBC. The reticulocyte is the immediate precursor of the mature RBC and, within 24 hours of release into the peripheral circulation, evolves into the mature RBC and losses its nucleus.
