The jejunum is the middle section of the small intestine. Its primary function is to absorb remaining nutrients from food, such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, that have not been absorbed in the duodenum. This is accomplished by the presence of villi and microvilli, which increase the surface area for absorption.
