Functions of hypothalamus :

1. It is centre for body temperature, urge for eating and drinking.

2. It possess several groups of neurosecretory cells which secrete hormones called hypothalamic hormones.

3. Hypothalamus and inner parts of cerebral hemispheres alongwith a group of associated deep structures like amygdala, hippocampus, etc form a complex structure - limbic lobe or limbic system.

Limbic system is involved in the regulation of sexual behaviour, expression of emotional reactions (e.g. pleasure, rage excitement and fear) and motivation.
