Biotic and abiotic components interact and form a physical structure which is unique for each type of ecosystem. Vertical distribution of different species occupying different levels is called stratification. For example, trees occupy top layer of a forest, smaller plants the second and weeds and grasses occupy the bottom layers. Pyramid of numbers provide information regarding the relationship between organisms at each trophic level in a ecosystem.
