Composition : 4 types of elements -
Tracheids : Elongated cells with tapering ends. Dead cells (no protoplasm) with lignified cell walls.
Vessels (Tracheae) : Vessel is tubular structure made up of cells (vessel members) joined together end to end. Dead cells (no protoplasm) with lignified cell walls and large central cavity. Members are interconnected by their perforated end walls. These are characteristic features of angiosperms (gymnosperms lack vessels).
