Crop plants are bred for insect pest resistance by hybridization or mutation breeding. Resistance mostly in plants towards insect pests is due to morphological, biochemical or physiological characteristics. The crop varieties having pest resistance developed by hybridization and selection process - Mustard - Pusa Gaurav - is resistant to Aphids. Jassids and aphid resistance have been developed in flat bean (Pusa Sem3). Okra viariety, Pusa Sawani, is resistant to fruit and shoot borers. Pusa Swarnim is a disease resistant variety of Brassica which is resistant to white rust.
