Mycorrhiza is an example of mutualism. It is an association between a fungus and the root of a higher plant. E.g., Pine, Birch. The fungus obtains shelter and food from root and helps the root in absorption of water, dissolution and absorption of inorganic nutrients locked in organic matter (especially nitrogen and phosphorus) and protection from other fungi.
