Microspore is the first cell of gametophytic generation. It is haploid in structure formed by reduction division or meiotic division of the microspore mother cell. The microspore mother cell is formed inside the anther which is the male reproductive structure. The main plant body is diploid (2n) and when microspore is formed, the gametophytic phase begins. The microspore gives rise to the male gametophyte.
