1. Vascular cambium (intrafscicular cambium) alongwith interfascicular cambium forms a continuous ring of cambium.

2. Cambial ring becomes active and cut off secondary phloem towards outer side and secondary xylem towards inner side.

3. Secondary xylem is produced more in quantity as cambium is more active in its inner part.

4. When secondary growth repeats few more times, high amount of secondary xylem is accumulates which results in crushing of the primary phloem and most of the secondary phloem (although primary xylem may remain intact).

5. Cambium forms narrow bands of secondary phloem at some places which are termed as medullary rays.

6. Girth of plant increases.
