An electron of mass 9.0×10-31 kg under the action of a magnetic field moves in a circle of radius 2 cm at a speed of 3×106 m/s. If a proton of mass 1.8×10-27 kg has to move in a circle of same radius and in the same magnetic field, then its speed must be

The correct answer is: 1.5×103 m/s
Magnetic force will provide the necessary centripetal force.

   Bqv=mv2r

Bqr=mv

For electron and proton, the magnetic field B, charge q and radius r are same.

So, mv = constant

i.e. meve=mpvp

vp=mempve=9×10-311.8×10-27×3×106

vp=1.5×103 m/s
