Oxoacids of phosphorus which contain $\mathrm{P}-\mathrm{H}$ bond act as reducing agents and reduce metal salts to free metals. Thus, $\mathrm{H}_3 \mathrm{PO}_2$ act as reducing agent while $\mathrm{H}_3 \mathrm{PO}_4$ does not.
