The burning of fuels in the atmosphere adds gases that support in increasing the temperature of the earth and contributes to global warming. Clouds and gases reflect about one-fourth of the incoming solar radiation. Also, they absorb it partially but nearly 50% of incoming solar radiation falls on earth's surface heating it. Only a small proportion is reflected back. Earth's surface gives out heat as infrared radiation of which atmospheric gases (e.g., carbon dioxide, methane, etc.) absorb a major fraction of it
