The raw material used for biogas production is excreta (dung) of cattle. The biogas plant has a concrete tank (10-15 feet deep) in which slurry of dung and bio-wastes are collected.
The tank has a floating cover which is elevated on production of gas in the tank. Methanobacterium in the dung acts on the bio-wastes to produce biogas. The produced gas is supplied to storage unit by an outlet. Through a resent outlet, the slurry spent is removed for use as fertiliser. Biogas is used as fuel for cooking and lighting.
