Natality and immigration contribute to an increase in population density, while mortality and emigration tend to decrease the size.
The density of a population (N) at time t can be expressed after a period of time (t + 1) as:
N(t+1) = Nt + [ (B + I) - (D + E) ]
where B denotesthe number of births,I denotesthe number of immigrants,D isthe number of deaths andE is thenumber of emigrants.
If B=D, and N(t+1)< Nt, then I < E.
