In dicot root, lateral root originates endogenously due to the activity of cells of pericycle, which undergoes dedifferentiation and becomes meristematic. During secondary growth cells of pericycle and the parenchyma cells of conjuctive tissue becomes meristematic and forms vascular cambium.
