Connective tissues arise from mesenchyme - an embryonic tissue which in turn arises from mesoderm, an embryonic germ layer. Cells of connective tissues secrete collagen and elastin fibres. They help in connecting, binding and supporting different structures of the animal body. Ligaments connect the bone to muscles whereas tendon connects bone to bone. They are highly vascular in nature.
