Mendel proposed that each gene has two contrasting forms i.e., alleles, but there are some which are having more than two alternative forms (allele). The presence of more than two alleles for a gene is known as multiple allelism. These alleles are present at the same locus of the chromosomes and can be identified only during population studies.
