Gamma radiations are ionizing radiations and are physical mutagens. They are used as mutagens in such materials, where nucleus is deep seated, e.g., seeds, stem cuttings etc. 'Sharbati Sonora' variety of wheat has been developed by gamma radiations on 'Sonora-64' variety (Mexican dwarf wheat variety).
