Xerophytes are plants that grow in deficiency of water as a result of which possess some adaptations to survive in the deficiency of water. They have deep roots that penetrate the soil to great depth and have shoot less developed than roots resulting in reduced transpiration. They also have sunken stomata which help in reducing the loss of water by opening at night as there is increase transpiration during the day. Stem and leaves are covered with thick cuticles and wax which also reduces transpiration
