Plants require periodic exposure to light for flowering. Some plants need exposure for a period more than a well defined critical duration known as long-day plants and the other short-day plants are the ones which need exposure to light less than the well defined critical duration. Different plants have different critical duration. The day-neutral plants are the plants which show no correlation between exposure to the light duration and their flowering response.
