MTP is Medical termination of pregnancy done purposely or intentionally. It is also known as induced abortion. In India this act was not accepted earlier. But it got accepted in the year 1971. It is performed to get rid of unwanted pregnancies due to unprotected sex or rapes. There are certain laws to be followed for the same though. These are considered safe i.e. without any danger to the female if these are performed during first trimester i.e. before 12 weeks or three months of pregnancy. MTPs can be surgical or can be induced using drugs too like Prostaglandin and Mefipristone however assistance of medical personnel is needed.
