The function of Sertoli cells, also known as nurse cells is controlled by the Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). The function of these cells is to provide nutrition to the growing germ cells i.e. spermatogonia. FSH stimulates the Sertoli cells to perform this function.

Estrogen is the hormone responsible for development of female sexual characters and development of female gametes.

Testosterone is the hormone responsible for development of male sexual characters and development of male gametes.

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is the hormone responsible for induction of ovulation and maintenance of corpus luteum.
