For diamagnetic material,
$0 \leq \mu_r \lt 1$
$\chi=\mu_r-1$
$\Rightarrow-1 \leq \chi \lt 0$
$\mu_r=\frac{\mu}{\mu_0}$
$\Rightarrow \mu \lt \mu_0 \quad\left(\because \mu_r \lt 1\right)$
$0 \leq \mu_r \lt 1$
$\chi=\mu_r-1$
$\Rightarrow-1 \leq \chi \lt 0$
