Glucose first enter glycolysis to form pyruvic acid, this occurs in cytoplasm by most common pathway called EMP pathway. It is a 10 step pathway. Than pyruvic acid undergoes oxidation to form lactic acid in one step reaction. Thus total 11 steps occur for oxidation of glucose to form lactic acid.
