The motion of earth which repeats itself over and over again after a regular interval of time about its axis in elliptical orbit and completes its one revolution in regular interval of time ( 24 hours). Hence, the rotation of earth about its axis is periodic.
The rotation of earth is obviously not a to and fro type of motion about a fixed point from which we can measure its displacement, hence its motion is not SHM.
