A functional unit of nature where living organisms interact among themselves and also with their physical environment is called an ecosystem. The term 'ecosystem' was coined by Sir Arthur Tansley. The entire biosphere is referred to as global ecosystem. The size of the ecosystem varies from small pond to a large forest or sea.
