The correct answer is: its molecules did not show any degradation as there was no free oxygen and enzymes.
According to Haldane, there was a time during the evolution of life when simple organic molecules (monomers) were just formed and they accumulated at the bottom of the sea. He called it hot dilute soup or primitive broth. They were no oxygen available at that time. Also, proteins were not formed yet and there were no enzymes. Hence there was no degradation of molecules.
