Question: Answered & Verified by Expert
Using the data provided, calculate the multiple bond energy kJ mol-1 of a CC bond in C2H2 . That energy is (take the bond energy of a C-H bond as 350 kJ mol-1 )

2Cs2Cg ; H=1410 kJ mol-1

H2g2H(g) : H=330 kJ mol-1

2C s + H 2 q C 2 H 2 ;ΔH=225 kJmol 1

The correct answer is: 815
(i) 2Cs+H2gH-CC-H(g)

H=225 kJ mol-1

(ii) 2Cs2C(g)

H1=1410 KJ mol-1
iii H2(g)2H(g)

H2=330 KJ mol-1

From equation (i) :
225=H1+H2-[ 2HC-H+HCC]

225= 1410+330+2×350+HCC ]

225=1040-HCC

HCC=1040-225=815 KJ mol-1
