According to Bohr, the wavelength emitted when an electron jumps from n1th to n2th orbit is

E = hcλ = E2 E1

1λ = R 1n12-1n22

For first-line in Lyman series

1λL =R112-122 = 3 R4 ...(i)

For first-line in Balmer series,

1λB =R122-132 = 5 R36 ...(ii)

From Eqs. (i) and (ii)

 λBλL =3 R4×365R = 275

 λB=275λ                           ( λL=λ)
