Pyramid of energy is always upright because at every successive trophic level only 10% energy is transferred. Due to this reason number of trophic levels in any food chain is usually 3 – 4 . Pyramid of biomass is always upright, except - In sea ecosystem, pyramid is inverted because biomass of fishes is comparatively more than producers (phytoplanktons). Pyramid of number is always upright, except - tree ecosystem where large tree is single but surviving organisms on it are comparatively more.
