aRb means bliveswith one $\mathrm{km}$ from $\mathrm{a}$, and bRa means a lives within one $\mathrm{km}$ from $\mathrm{b}$ but distance from $\mathrm{a}$ to $\mathrm{b}=$ distance from $\mathrm{b}$ to $\mathrm{a}$. So, R issymmetric.
