During inspiration, contraction of the external intercostal muscles between ribs and phrenic muscles of diaphragm occurs. Due to this, the volume of thoracic chamber increases from all sides and this also increases the pulmonary volume and therefore decreases pulmonary pressure than atmospheric pressure.
