Acetaldehyde have $\mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CO}-$ group so it give positive iodoform test with $I_2$ and $\mathrm{NaOH}$ while formaldehyde does not have $-\mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CO}$ group so it will not give the positive haloform test.
